Cycle Support
Understanding Your Cycle with Traditional Chinese Medicine
In Traditional Chinese Medicine literature, Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture has played a role in Gynaecology for thousands of years. At The Dao Health, menstrual cycle support begins with educating each patient about the phases of their menstrual cycle including not only the period bleed but also the main event, Ovulation.
By empowering our patients to expand their knowledge of their own menstrual cycle this allows them to become familiar with associated symptoms from pain to moodiness that are experienced throughout their cycle and how to live with the seasons of the menstrual cycle.
Integrating Traditional Chinese Medicine and Biomedical Approaches for Menstrual Cycle Balance
From a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective, the menstrual cycle is a monthly diagnostic tool used which gives a woman a cyclical insight into their hormonal health. The uniqueness of each woman is acknowledged throughout Traditional Chinese Medicine and this is reflected in each woman’s menstrual cycle. Each woman’s personalised cycle should aim to be regular and optimally occur in a consistent cycle with a healthy monthly menstrual flow.
From a biomedical perspective, Acupuncture treatments can support the hormones by regulating the function of the Hypothalamic Pituitary Adrenal (HPA) axis and Hypothalamic Pituitary Ovarian (HPO) axis to support efficient Ovulation, improving cycle regularity and associated cycle symptoms.
If your cycle is not comfortable and you don’t understand your own personal flow, The Dao Health provides a supportive and educational sphere in which through practitioner guidance, can assist you in becoming familiar with your own body, menstrual cycle and the accompanying signs and symptoms to enable your hormones to support you.
Through an integrative lense, The Dao Health practitioners will consider internal factors from a biomedical perspective including pathology assessment and a range of modalities can be used including Acupuncture, Moxibustion, Chinese Herbal Medicine, Chinese Dietary Therapy and Supplementation.
Common Menstrual Conditions
Pre-menstrual Syndrome (PMS) & Pre-menstrual Tension (PMT)
From a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective, PMS and PMT are both conditions reflected in a pattern of imbalance. A pattern that can be relieved through the support of Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal medicine and Chinese Dietary Therapy.
Dysmenorrhea (Period Pain)
These symptoms are seen as a pattern of imbalance in which the blood flow through the uterus is not adequate. Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine is available to benefit the period and to provide natural period pain relief to improve a female’s quality of life throughout this time.
Amenorrhea & Oligomenorrhea (Irregular Menstrual Cycle)
Without ovulation, there is no menstrual cycle, i.e. no period and highlights hormone metabolism dysfunction. Acupuncture and herbal medicine to aid in ovulation can help to support a regular flow to reduce these ailments.
Endometriosis
Affecting 1 in every 10 women and can currently take up to 7 years to be diagnosed. Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicines have been shown to reduce inflammation and pain related to endometriosis. From a TCM perspective, the focus is on a differential diagnosis of the ailment to ensure regulation of the menstrual cycle.
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)
A metabolic and endocrinological disorder characterised by improper hormone signalling, insulin resistance and inflammation. Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine aim to regulate the human body through restoring harmony of the body by the smooth circulation of Qi.
Affordable and Natural Treatment for Period Pain
Painful menstrual conditions affects quality of life and imposes an economic burden due to healthcare and treatment costs. Effective management requires a multidisciplinary, patient-centered approach, but access and cost often hinder receiving such care.
At The Dao Health, we recognise this barrier and in turn have created the Period Pain & Pins Acupuncture Community Clinic. We aim to increase the accessibility of Acupuncture as a primary, complementary medicine to manage Endometriosis symptoms for our wider community.
Similar to how Acupuncture is used traditionally in China we will be providing Acupuncture in group setting for those who experience Period Pain, Pelvic Pain and/or Endometriosis at an accessible fee.
