Plus cosmetic acupuncture

Cosmetic Acupuncture, also known as facial rejuvenation, is a safe, gentle and natural anti-aging practice to support natural beauty and wellbeing. It is supported by more than 4,000 years of documentation. The Dao Health practitioners are specifically trained in Cosmetic Acupuncture which consists of local facial treatment as well as body constitution points to support internal balance.

Our treatments persist to soften lines and wrinkles, lift wilted skin, increase firmness and tone in the face, as well as support circulation to stimulate bright, even and glowing skin. Treatments don’t only have significant benefits for the face, but can address the entire body, restoring balance both internally and externally.

Delicate, fine needles are inserted into targeted areas to stimulate collagen and elastin production. When treating the face, the needles foster blood and Qi circulation (see Qi circulation tab), which initiates a beneficial micro trauma, in which the body identifies the needles as a foreign object and exerts fibroblasts that play a critical role in tissue repair. This encourages the production of the two building blocks of skin, collagen and elastin.

Treatment recommendations and results will be determined by a number of factors:

Age: a patient aged 20 to 35 years old will require less treatment than a patient aged 50+ years old.

Lifestyle: A healthy, balanced lifestyle goes hand in hand with treatment progression. Recommendations will be discussed in the initial consultation.

Skin type and composition: tone, pigmentation, scaring and structure of skin can have an effect on treatment progression, which your practitioner will discuss with you.

A minimum of five weekly sessions is recommended for visible results, however this can vary per patient, as per the reasons above. After the initial block of treatments continuation treatments are advised to sustain development, occurring between four to eight weeks. For patients that lead a healthy lifestyle and commit to regular skin regime, results can ideally be obtained for two to three years (with maintenance), and a new block may be recommended 24 months post initial treatment.

Patients with botox: It is recommended to avoid areas that have had Botox within the last three months, due to the ability of Acupuncture counteracting the effect of Botox. After this time, we recommend booking an initial consultation.

The Dao Health uses Seirin facial needles, a high-quality product made in Japan to increase comfortable insertion in the face. Using this product decreases the risk of bruising, swelling and bleeding.

Moxibustion is also effective for gynaecological issues. Research has shown evidence that Mugwort has emmenagogic properties which accelerate the flow of the blood in the pelvis and uterus area. Moxibustion therapy is beneficial for females who experience menstrual cramping and pain. It has also been a successful therapy to use for breech babies.

Being a gentle and safe procedure, Cosmetic Acupuncture requires very little recovery time so that you can proceed with your daily routine post treatment. Like various other facial treatments, some post effects may include light flushes to the face or redness, which is a result of an increased circulation of blood to the facial region. Minor bruising occasionally occurs at the needle insertion point, however this is typically painless and will diminish within a couple of days.
